Rims & Tires
A lot of people agree with the idea that rims and tires make the car. Most Hondas come equipped with 13",14", or 15" wheels or rims, from the factory. This results in high side walled tires with narrow tread paths, which results in meager handling characteristics and a very "stock" look. The available rims in those sizes are limited in style and usually fail to give the cars a custom or sporty look. The first thing a tuner needs to do is choose a style of rim that he or she wants to get for their car. The normal sizes for Hondas would start at a 16" rim and go up to 18". Once a rim is selected, it's crucial to ensure that the correct wheel offset is available for the specific model of car that the rim is going on. Offset is a measurement from the wheel hub to the rim and this measurement needs to line up otherwise the rims won't seat properly on the hub, which results in a combination that renders the vehicle unsuitable for driving. When the desired style of rim and correct offset of wheel is found, then it is time to choose a good tire. Tires come in a variety of widths and offer a variety of speed ratings, tread wear ratings, and temperature ratings. The general rule of thumb is the higher performance the tire, the higher the price. The performance based rewards of tires include better traction in a variety of conditions, better braking power, and much improved vehicle handling characteristics. The larger rims also shrink the size of the tires sidewall, which looks better and helps with cornering. Rims and tires are a good investment for the Honda tuners because they improve the vehicles appearance and multiple aspects of its performance.
