Exhaust
Aftermarket exhaust systems are very common on modified Hondas and usually one of the first purchases that someone will make. They can be bought in different sections from just the muffler, to a cat back system, and high flow converters can be purchased as well. Simply replacing the muffler will provide some but this is done for mostly looks and sound. Cat back exhausts do increase performance, but the notice in gains is minimal if no other modifications have been done. They do provide a variety of nice sound tones and usually an appealing stainless exhaust tip. It is one of the most identifiable ways to recognize a modified car when another driver sees this. When major motor work has been done like high compression pistons, headwork, and larger cams, a free flowing exhaust becomes crucial. In the case of forced induction, this is especially true as well and replacing the cat, all the way back the muffler is recommended. Most exhaust manufacturers have model specific kits for all popular Hondas and Acuras, and in some cases, a sound clip of the exhaust listed on their website. Since almost any aftermarket exhaust is going to flow better than the factory junk, it is best to choose a stainless model that looks good and sounds great. Most people start modifying their Hondas with an intake and go from there. A high performance exhaust is a logical second step, closely followed by a header or turbo kit.
